Prof. Peter Donkor

Principal Investigator

Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Former President of the African Forum for Research and Education in Health (AFREhealth – www.afrehealth.org), First Vice-President of the West African College of Surgeons,

Chairman of University Hospital Services Management Board and the Founder of Ghana Cleft Foundation. Former roles include Pro Vice-Chancellor, Provost of the College of Health Sciences and Head, Department of Surgery. He is Founder and former Director, Office of Grants and Research, KNUST. He is a product of the University of Sydney, Australia and University of London, UK. Holds qualifications in surgery and public health from those countries. His research interests include global surgery and injury prevention, cleft lip and palate, research administration and medical education. He has authored several papers, book chapters, and scientific communications.

Mr. Bernard Barnie

Project Manager

Has Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in information studies from University of Ghana, Legon. He has worked on Medical Education Partnership Initiative Project, Medicolegal Training Project and currently on the KNUST Injury Training project. Experienced in administration with a keen interest in Project Management, Library Science, Information Retrieval, and Digital Libraries Management. Has few publications to his credit.

Ms Freda F. Botwe

MSc. BSc.
Administrator, The Trauma/Injury Project

Ms. Botwe holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Planning and a Master’s degree in Health Services Planning and Management. She brings a strong interdisciplinary foundation in systems thinking, organizational coordination, and service delivery.
With experience working as an administrator in both formal institutions and voluntary roles, she has honed her skills in operations management, team coordination, and stakeholder engagement.
Currently serving as the Administrator at The Trauma Project, she oversees the day-to-day functioning of the organization, supports project implementation, and ensures smooth communication among team members. Her passion lies in improving organizational systems that support health equity and injury prevention initiatives.

 

About Us

Kumasi Injury is a research collaboration between Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi Ghana and University of Washington (UW), Seattle USA. Its agenda is to strengthen injury control research in Ghana and West Africa. The program is solidly grounded on a history of collaboration in injury research, which started in 1995 and has received funding through Fogarty International Center (FIC), National Institutes of Health (NIH), USA since 2006.
